Use this thread to talk about the Road to Wrestlemania or blame Roman Reigns for yesterday’s boring ass Super Bowl or talk about Daniel Bryan’s retirement announcement.

Sadly when I read that he was going to elaborate on RAW tonight my first thought was “angle”. In seriousness I hope he is able to train or book or do commentary or whatever if he’s retired from in-ring action. Hopefully he’s saved well and is looking ahead to do other things to fulfill his life.

Anyway keep it clean!

This will be quick because I got sidetracked with a few things and almost forgot. First and foremost, the Bret Hart news surprised me and saddened me. Cancer is just…cancer sucks. Period. I still think we can debate things about him and have jokes without wishing ill will to the man so I hope we continue to have our thoughts regarding “The Hitman” in wrestling while wishing him the best in dealing with this disease.

Weird thing was, I was listening to a podcast while running late last week and I got to thinking…what if Bret Hart was in the “Kliq”. Like what if he and the other five were buds. How awesome could a Hart/Razor vs. Shawn/Diesel tag match have been? He pretty much worked great matches with them from a singles standpoint but if he was a Kliq member that could have been taken to the next level. We would have also had a better Summerslam 1995 main event.

That’s really all I have. I’m still trying to figure out how Alex Riley got the go ahead to play 1999 Triple H right down to the spinebuster but good for him if Trips thinks enough of him to gift him the gimmick.

Enjoy your evening and keep it clean!

Monday Night Open Mic

Howdy Blog O’Doomers! Welcome to the Road to Wrestlemania.

Yay Jughead! My New England Patriots nightmare is over for at least a year. And good for Carolina too. Part of me wanted to see the two old gunslingers battle it out for a title but we need some new blood in football.

Like most people I forgot the Rumble was on until I saw Scott posted a rant and I decided to load up the Network. Opener was terrific and the women’s match was good too with the right finish and the right follow as long as it’s kept in a three-way feud. I FFW’ed through the tag match, which had an obvious ending and the U.S. Title match, which wasn’t obvious but it makes no sense to keep bouncing the title between these two guys.

The Rumble itself…Hmmm…I thought it was much better than the last couple of years. A.J. Styles was just a cool thing and he really worked the match well because he kept getting reactions and they put him in a worker’s slot. Jericho is also still really good as a pace setter in these matches. The Sami Zayn stuff was good and I hope they can follow up with that because Zayn-Owens is good stuff. Brock came out at the right time. The Wyatt feud will be a disaster but whatever. Everything was fine if not predictable until the end. I hate the idea that they booked the finish like this was 2002 Triple H instead of where we are. He came in and dominated and looked great and made the other guys look like shit in his presence. Now he’s got to build someone up to be his challenger? He eliminated the last two guys cleanly and we’re supposed to hate him or spite him or what? And they’ve just fucked the Reigns thing up six ways from Sunday. It almost seems like it was intentional. Part is bad luck, I’m convinced he’d be in a much better position if Rollins didn’t get hurt and they did the title switch as planned but the aura the guy had a few years ago is just completely dead. There better be a hell of a long-term payoff for that unless they are just ready to move on.

Anyway enjoy RAW or whatever else you watch. Keep it clean!

Hope you all had a good weekend as we start plowing through the year of 2016. How about those football games eh? Teams really need to start defending the hail mary better. And yay Carolina if only because Seattle deserved to lose for pissing away the Super Bowl last year. And despite his noodle arm and lack of mobility I still love Peyton Manning, so I’m hoping Jughead can beat Brady in another championship game, get to a fourth Super Bowl and retire.

Anyway enough of that. It’s the go-home episode of RAW for the Royal Rumble that no one going to watch because it’ll start during the second quarter of the NFC Championship game. Of course that game will probably go to overtime meaning the WWE can’t even get those 10 p.m. eyes to check out the Rumble itself. As for the little bit of booking I’ve been following it seems like they have booked themselves in a little corner here. It’s going to be Reigns or HHH or Brock right? This means my dream of a Brock-Samoa Joe slugfest at Wrestlemania isn’t going to happen :(.

In spite of the booking the Rumble is still supposed to be a fun event. Who’s going to be the surprise entrant from the attitude era? Please don’t tell me Billy Gunn or something like that. And who will represent from NXT? I’m assuming they will have a Battle Royal or something on their Jan. 22 show for that privilege.

Anyway tonight on TV

Warriors at Cavs in a NBA Finals Rematch
Rockets at Clippers in rematch of two random teams from the West
College Basketball
The Bachelor
NCIS Los Angeles, etc. etc.

Over/Under on times Ric Flair cries during SCSA podcast? 3.

Sooooooo….it’s safe to say that RAW doesn’t have to worry about getting any viewers in the southeast tonight? Luckily for them it’s two southeastern teams playing in the college football national championship and not like Ohio State vs. Alabama or something that will dominate two large regions.

Another funny thing, WWE is putting its second-most important show of the year head-to-head with one of the three highest-rated sporting events of the year? They realize that the second NFL conference championship game won’t be finished until around 10 p.m. right? So they could have moved this to Saturday since it’s mostly network based and without football or a UFC PPV to counter…maybe having a Saturday PPV isn’t the worst thing that could happen given the numbers.

Last year the Green Bay-Seattle game hit close to 60 million viewers in the overtime. 60 million!

The night game (Patriots-Colts I think) was closer to 42-43 million but it was a horrible blowout.

Seriously WWE what are ya thinking man? There’s zero chance that a non-network subscriber bothers to watch the card if the second game is remotely competitive.

Despite that I’m considering seeing NXT at UCF on the 22nd. Looks like it would be a fun card. Maybe I can convince the family to stay the night and do all-access the next day…actually I will probably shop but tell them that we’ll do all-access the next day. Yeah. That’s much more likely.

Anyway, enjoy your Monday. You know this girl that grew up minutes east of the Alabama state line is going to be watching some football tonight! With no dog in the fight I say Go Clemson Tide! 😉

I hope all of you rang in the new year with happiness and had a fun, safe time for the remainder of the weekend.

Now that the new year is here I’m going to try to get back on the WWE wagon at least through Wrestlemania. MOST of the time the period from the final build to the Royal Rumble through Extreme Rules does not suck. They’ve tried hard to make it suck over the past couple of years but it’s survived. This time is going to be a little harder but I’m hopeful it will at least be fun.

If I could get a few things in 2016 to make me a more frequent watcher I’d probably do the following:

— Break Rusev off and push him to the point of where he can be a top challenger for Reigns post-WM: I don’t see Rusev winning the Rumble but I’d like for him to at least be Reigns’ main foil post Wrestlemania and going into the summer. I love Rusev. I think he’s taken a lot of potentially bad stories and made them work on some level. He really won me over at TLC with the simplest of things: he’s beating down Ryback post-match and has him in the accolade on the floor. Lana is clapping and approving and he takes a minute to smile at her live a loving husband and give her a kiss while still applying the hold on Ryback and then he goes back to his mean mug. That’s great improv there. He’s both a mean asshole and a loving fiance’. And it’s one of those little details that give a character the charm that gets them over.

— Give New Day someone new: Whether Enzo and Cass get the call up or someone else the New Day desperately need a new challenger to keep their act fresh. They have been doing wonders with the crop of opponents they’ve been given but it’s starting to feel old.

— Brock vs. Samoa Joe at WM: I know you guys want Brock vs. Owens and I’m really cool with that but tell me Brock vs. Joe wouldn’t be even more awesome?

There is plenty of good TV on…especially a 1 vs. 2 in college basketball. So watch it!

While you guys are all waiting for the “highly-anticipated” final RAW of the year, I’ll be enjoying a Lightning-Canadiens game tonight. Apparently the Canadiens have lost like six in a row…sucks to be them. Has the final RAW of the year ever been good? Is it even live tonight or did they just tape it and let everyone break?

Anyway, have a good one and be safe for the start of 2016 if I don’t catch up with you before then.

I hope all of you are having a great holiday season. It’s been busy as all here. I did get a chance to watch NXT Takeover and have a couple of quick thoughts.

— Emma is a really good worker if they grow the women’s division into the WWE. She can be a face or a heel and perform well in a top program or a mid-card program. The Asuka vs. Mean Girls program has probably been my favorite in NXT besides the build up to Joe-Balor and it wasn’t for a title or anything. The blowoff match was very good too.

— Samoa Joe is probably done for a while, I see him as an NXT/WWE special attraction type but if we got Samoa Joe vs. Brock at Wrestlemania that would. be. awesome. If we can get the build to that at the Royal Rumble that would be even better.

— Time to move Corbin and Balor up to the next level. Not sure when Zayn or Itami is scheduled to return but when one or the other does they can move the belt off Balor and move him up. Enzo and Cass should also be on the move too.

Otherwise there’s an NFL game only fantasy players and gamblers will be interested in so maybe people will watch RAW.

Other than that there’s a full slate of NBA and NHL games on tonight. Enjoy!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I’ve said all I’m going to say about the last Network special on the other threads. Short synopsis: “I’m glad they are building Rusev back up and I think HHH has decided to completely take Roman Reigns’ success or failure into his hands which might be a good thing for Roman in the short term.

I caught the UFC fights…To think my Ronda Rousey and Chris Weidman nightmares have gone away in the last few months in more than I could have hoped for. The minute I started to be all right with Weidman he went back to being annoying. First top guy he fights that wasn’t on the senior circuit beats the shit out of him…clearly Dana White got sick of protecting him.

Beyond that there are a ton of opinions and I know you want to share them so go for it!

And there’s plenty on TV. Watch it!

Happy Hanukkah to the members of the blog that celebrate it.

Global/USWA, Stampede and a ton more WCCW episodes in the most recent drop. Yeah I don’t have to watch non-NXT WWE anytime soon.

There’s stuff on TV. Watch it!

Hope  all you Americans had a nice Thanksgiving holiday and the rest of the Blog’O Doom-a-sphere had a wonderful weekend. As custom I caught some little bug over the weekend and I’m going to take a shot of Nyquil and pass out.

So its a given the Browns-Ravens MNF game will suck let’s see how RAW does. And I wonder if WWE will release a DVD called “The Destruction of Roman Reigns” when the time comes?

Anyway, keep it clean and pass me a tissue!

I don’t know about you guys but I think I’m on NXT for a few weeks or however long the Sheamus title reign lasts. This is proof that if HHH and Vince are bickering over an issue they will find a middle ground on the worst possible idea that neither one of them should like.

Besides I can’t get enough of Eva Marie’s last amazing promo. When she said “All right be quiet you little dorks” I was thinking….”heat machine”

So TV:

Patriots-Bills on MNF

7 NHL/7 NHL and ton of college basketball.

New Episodes: The Voice, Dancing With the Stars, Blindspot, Supergirl, Fargo, NCIS Los Angeles, Jane the Virgin, etc. etc.

Eddie Murphy is receiving some award for being funny on PBS.

Enjoy….and keep it clean!

Hopefully none of you guys got kicked in the face this weekend. Funny thing is I don’t know if it was good or bad for MMA. Obviously the rematch will be big business but if Holm wins again then what? She’s probably not going to take to stardom like Rousey did and Rousey’s whole act become moot the first time we saw her laying on the canvas.

Anyway it gets me back to wrestling where any business would be nice business. Everyone knows I’m ready to see this Roman Reigns thing pass or fail. Not sure if a heel turn is the right thing or not. It depends on who he turns against. If it’s Ambrose or Cena it’s a good thing, if it’s someone like Ziggler it’s not a good thing.

All this aligns into who Brock should face for his Wrestlemania program and for me there’s only one logical name….C.M. Punk.

Clearly this would seem to be difficult, if not impossible to pull off. But the guy hasn’t had a UFC fight yet so he can escape clean from MMA and come back if Vince is really desperate (and I think Vince is pretty desperate by now). The story writes itself with Brock needing to cheat to win at Summerslam 2013 and Punk coming back for his revenge. He could easily play the heel in the program this time around with a couple of strong promos and well timed attacks.

I doubt it will happen but without Rock, Austin, Rousey, Rollins at his disposal don’t think the name hasn’t been batted around Vince’s head more than once. And know that he probably doesn’t care whether the guy likes his son-in-law or not.

TV Tonight

Bengals-Texans on Monday Night Football

6 NHL, 6 NBA and a full slate of college basketball men’s and women’s

New Episodes: Gotham, Fargo, Supergirl, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, Blindspot, NCIS Los Angeles, etc. etc.

Everyone’s excited about tournament time I see! Sucks for Seth Rollins though, I’m sure he was looking forward to putting over his former teammate to repay the favor after Wrestlemania (he did say ‘thank you’ after all). Anyway you all have your ideas for the best way to go about a tournament and whatever the minds in Connecticut combine to do it’s bound to disappoint most of you.

Whatever they do it’s time to cut out the idea of a final swerve. Put Reigns over, if he goes over Cena that much better. Either way it’s time to let this guy sink or swim.

As for TV Tonight

MNF is Chargers-Bears

7 NBA Games (Golden State-Detroit is a nice late-night watch) and 1 NHL game looking all lonely and without friends to play with.

New Episodes: Gotham, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Supergirl, NCIS Los Angeles, Blindspot and Fargo.
