The newly-christened Sakura Genesis is headlined by Okada vs. Shibata for the IWGP title, Hiromu Takahashi and KUSHIDA face-off once more for the Junior belt, and Zack Sabre Jr. attempts to get his hands on some New Japan gold, challenging Hirooki Goto for the NEVER title. Let’s get to it.

  • Dave Meltzer and Jonathan Coachman went back and forth on Twitter regarding ESPN’s failure to cover Mauro Ranallo’s absence from WWE.   • Rumours abound that Jim Ross will return to call a match (or two) at Wrestlemania. The Wrestling Observer reports that they cannot confirm Ross has signed any type of WWE contract.
  • According to Dave Meltzer, the current plan is that Reigns vs. Undertaker will be the main event.
  • NXT Takeover and ROH Supercard of Honor XI are among the shows taking place today.
  • Tickets for New Japan’s G1 Special in Long Beach go on sale today at 8am PST/11am EST. More info here.

NJPW New Japan Cup 2017: Final

March 20th, 15:00 from Ao-re Nagaoka, Niigata

Yesterday’s show saw Bad Luck Fale and Katsuyori Shibata get past EVIL and Tomohiro Ishii respectively to reach today’s final. Up for grabs, as well as the prestige of winning the Cup itself, is a title shot of the winner’s choice. The rest of the card features multi-man tags that will likely set up matches for April’s Sakura Genesis. Let’s get to it.
