WWF Superstars of Wrestling – February 22nd, 1992

February 22, 1992

From the Amarillo Civic Center in Amarillo, TX

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect. When asked about Savage facing Flair at WrestleMania, Perfect says he knows a thing or two that will affect Savage’s performance then inhales a helium balloon and says Savage will be anything but macho.

This week, we will see the entire Randy Savage vs. Jake Roberts match from “Saturday Night’s Main Event” with exclusive footage of what took place after the show went off the air. Also in action are Ted DiBiase & IRS, Bret Hart, and Tatanka.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Ed Robinson

The announcers talk about Bret vs. Piper at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Title. Bret clotheslines Robinson then drops him with a headbutt. We hear from Piper in an insert promo as he calls himself the meanest son of a gun Bret has ever seen. Bret stays in control then uses the Sharpshooter for the win (1:47).

Thoughts: They are officially announcing Bret vs. Piper for the IC Title now, which will be interesting with the face vs. face dynamic.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We learn that the Royal Rumble will be available on VHS this coming Thursday. Okerlund talks about the WrestleMania double main event and we see clips from SNME when Sid turned his back on Hogan and when Sid trashed the Barber Shop.

BA Dalton vs. Tatanka

Perfect says he has been impressed with Tatanka. Match starts with Tatanka hitting a pair of slams then a dropkick. We then hear Tatanka in an insert promo calling himself the leader of all Indian Nations and that he has the wisdom to go to the top of the WWF. Tatanka stays in control then uses a Samoan Drop for the win (1:27).

Thoughts: Tatanka has a good look and I kind like the white tights look too although that will be changing soon. They are slowly building up Tatanka for a push.

The announcers plug “WBF Magazine.”

Larry Williams & Jimmy James vs. “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Schyster

Before the match, IRS tells the crowd things are bigger in Texas and that the biggest tax cheats in the world are here. Vince says DiBiase & IRS has the potential to become one of the greatest teams. DiBiase & IRS beat on James to start. Vince wants to know if the egos of DiBiase & IRS can go exist then he grills Perfect about Flair facing Savage. Robinson is now in the match and does not fare any better than his partner then after DiBiase lets go of the Million Dollar Dream, IRS hits the Write Off for the win (3:27).

Thoughts: They really put over DiBiase & IRS as having great potential as a team and we will see why in the coming weeks.

An ad for WrestleMania VIII airs.

WrestleMania Report with Gene Okerlund. More matches will be announced next week.

Vince hypes the “History of WrestleMania” magazine.

We see Savage defeat Jake Roberts from SNME. Then, we see the exclusive footage of what took place afterwards. When Elizabeth ran out and celebrated with Savage, we saw Jake hide behind the curtain. Savage & Elizabeth head back towards the curtain as Jake grabs a chair and does not care who comes through first as they will get hit. Vince yells for the producers to do something but just as Jake was about to swing, The Undertaker appeared from behind and grabbed the chair. Savage then attacked Jake as the segment ends with Undertaker & Bearer looking down at Jake.

Next week in action are Papa Shango, New Foundation, Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter, and the Repo Man. Plus, Jake Roberts as the guest on the “Funeral Parlor”

Final Thoughts: The main focus on this show was finding out what happened after SNME went off the air two weeks ago. The Undertaker is now a face and will feud with Jake since Savage is in the title match at WrestleMania. They also had a bit of spotlight on Bret vs. Piper too as the top Mania storylines are being put in place.
