WWF Superstars of Wrestling – December 14th, 1991

December 14, 1991

From the New Haven Coliseum in New Haven, CT

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect. We then learn from Perfect that Ric Flair will be entering the Royal Rumble.

In action this week are Jake Roberts, Natural Disasters, and Virgil. Plus, Bret Hart will receive an award and the Royal Rumble Report.

The Bushwhackers vs. Barry Hardy & Brian Donahue

Vince tells us that The Bushwhackers might be participants in the Rumble match. The Bushwhackers stop over to Jamison in the crowd and lick his head then decide to put him in their corner. Vince alerts us that Jamison is a big Bushwhackers fan. The Bushwhackers take control early as Jamison is excited on the outside. Vince tells us Piper will no longer commentate alongside Mr. Perfect as Jamison is now shown eating a sandwich. The Bushwhackers stay in control then put Hardy away with a double gutbuster (2:32). After the match, The Bushwhackers bring Jamison into the ring and they all march around like morons.

Thoughts: Jamison’s new gimmick is now a Bushwhacker super fan. I guess Vince really wanted this guy as a TV character even after the format change on “Prime Time Wrestling.”

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. After hyping up the Royal Rumble, Okerlund tells us that Randy Savage will be part of the Rumble match. We are then shown highlights from Savage vs. Jake Roberts from This Tuesday in Texas.

Ross Greenberg vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Vince talks about what Jake did at This Tuesday in Texas and wonders what Jake will do next. Jake beats on Greenberg but walks into a few punches. Jake then avoids a dropkick as Vince shows us the photos of Jake’s cobra biting Savage that are featured in WWF Magazine. Perfect talks about putting those photos in a frame at his office as Jake tosses Greenberg outside. Jake then brings Greenberg back inside and hits a DDT for the win (2:47).

Thoughts: They put over Jake’s willingness to do anything in order to torment Savage as we will see what happens next between the two.

Virgil vs. Von Krus

Virgil hits a back suplex as the announcers talk about him losing the Million Dollar Title due to the Repo Man. Virgil flies out with a pescado then brings Krus back inside. We hear from Repo Man in an insert promo telling Virgil the Holiday season is a time for taking and promises to take Virgil’s career. Virgil stays in control then puts Krus away with the Million Dollar Dream (2:50).

Thoughts: They are hyping up the Virgil/Repo Man lower card feud now since Virgil is done feuding with his former boss DiBiase.

Natural Disasters w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Bill Pierce & Kevin Drake

The Disasters destroy Pierce as the announcers talk about their feud against the Legion of Doom. The announcers now plug Spotlight Magazine as the Disasters stay in control. Drake tags in and also gets destroyed until he gets put away with a splash combo (4:15).

Thoughts: A long squash match as the Disasters are just not getting over as monster heels. Earthquake has essentially been marginalized while no one ever bought Typhoon as a threat.

Bret Hart heads out to the ring to get his “Wrestler of the Year” award. It is presented by Freddie Blassie. Bret poses with the trophy as the fans cheer then we head to break.

El Matador vs. Chris Duffy

Vince tells us Matador will be facing The Berzerker this Monday on “Prime Time Wrestling.” Matador takes control as Vince wants to know if he will be included in the Royal Rumble match. Duffy crashes outside then Matador brings him back in and puts him away with the El Paso de la Muerte (2:21).

Thoughts: They plugged the Berzerker/Matador match but not once on the show did they mention the other match on Prime Time, which was Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels.

Col. Mustafa & Gen. Adnan are shown backstage playing “WWF WrestleMania Challenge” for NES.

We hear comments from new participants announced for the Royal Rumble match including: Texas Tornado, Warlord, Virgil, IRS, British Bulldog, and The Berzerker. We also hear from The Undertaker and Ric Flair.

Beverly Brothers w/ The Genius vs. Jim Arnon & Sonny Blaze

Jamison is back behind the guardrail as he gives the Beverly Brothers the thumbs down. The Beverly Brothers take control of the match as Genius taunts Jamison. The Beverly Brothers beat down Arnon then put him away with the Shaker Heights Spike (2:11). After the match, Jamison sticks his tongue out at the Beverly Brothers, who come out to confront him. Jamison is almost pulled over the guardrail but the Bushwhackers come out for the save. The Bushwhackers check on Jamison and take him backstage.

Thoughts: They’ve now added Jamison to spice up the Beverly Brothers/Bushwhackers feud. I will give the guy who played Jamison credit as he at least performed well as the character.

Next week in action are The Rockers, Bret Hart, Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter, The Undertaker, and Ric Flair

Final Thoughts: We found out some more competitors in the Rumble match and the big angle of the show revolved around Jamison. Other than that the focus remained on the other feuds in the company with standard Rumble match hype mixed in between.
