From the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, and Jim Neidhart
This week in action are Sgt. Slaughter, Bret Hart, The Undertaker, The Rockers, and Natural Disasters.
Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Ed Moretti
Heenan plugs Randy Savage’s bachelor party that will air on “Prime Time Wrestling.” Moretti lands a few shots but Bret ducks a clothesline and comes back with a Thesz Press. Bret stays in control as we hear from him in an insert promo saying he will take the Intercontinental Title from Mr. Perfect “in the SummerSlam” then he puts Moretti away with a Sharpshooter (2:18).
Thoughts: More hype for the Bret/Perfect SummerSlam match while reminding us to watch Prime Time for Savage’s bachelor party.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This is the same as the “WWF Update” segment on Superstars that showed Sid Justice confront Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior to say he is only there to make sure that justice is served.
Handicap Match: Jeff Wheeler & Vern Sebert vs. Sgt. Slaughter w/ Gen. Adnan & Col Mustafa
We hear from the Triangle of Terror in an insert promo as Slaughter says their “Plan A” will destroy Hogan & Warrior. Gorilla says he has heard rumors of problems within the ranks of the Triangle of Terror as Heenan says that is false. Slaughter beats on both men with ease then puts Wheeler away with the Camel’s Clutch (2:34). After the match, Adnan & Mustafa come in to beat on the other men too as the camera shows another Slaughter shirt in the crowd. Slaughter is shown yelling into the camera about Warrior & Hogan while having Wheeler in the clutch about how they will suffer the same fate.
Thoughts: Since they are focusing on the new Slaughter shirt again and the company does not feature heel merchandise on TV, its easy to see what will happen after the PPV. Adnan & Mustafa are an albatross to Slaughter.
The Rockers vs. Black Knight & Shane Croft
The Rockers take control early as Shawn is still wearing his hat that the company is trying to market. Gorilla reminds us to order SummerSlam as Shawn press slams Marty on top of Croft for the win (2:03).
Thoughts: Another easy win for The Rockers who remain without a program.
Randy Thatcher vs. The Warlord w/ Slick
Thatcher is jacked but short. Warlord kicks the crap out of Thatcher and quickly puts him away with the full nelson (1:00).
Thoughts: The Warlord is still the big, strong guy stuck in the middle of the card.
The Natural Disasters w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Mike Russel & Hutch Thomas
The Natural Disasters beat on Thomas to start. We hear from The Bushwhackers with Andre the Giant to hype their match against the Disasters at SummerSlam as the Disasters beat on Russel then put him away with a double splash combo (2:40).
Thoughts: The hype for Natural Disasters/Bushwhackers all revolves around Andre and sadly, its the completely broken down Andre in street clothes and crutches.
Replay of Jake Roberts “training” the Ultimate Warrior in the cemetery.
SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund.
The announcers plug the newest edition of “WWF Magazine” with Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior on the cover.
Ray Williams vs. The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer
Undertaker beats on Williams as we hear from Bearer in an insert promo telling Warrior to stop his quest in searching for the Undertaker’s higher power. Heenan suggests the power is the urn as Undertaker hits the Tombstone for the win (1:22). After the match, Undertaker stuffs Williams into a bodybag.
Thoughts: More hype for the Undertaker/Warrior feud.
Sean Mooney is in the Event Center. We learn that Warlord & Power Glory vs. Texas Tornado & British Bulldog & The Dragon will take place at SummerSlam.
Next week we will see Sid Justice as guest in the “Barber Shop.” Before the show closes, Heenan pulls out the NWA World Heavyweight Title and says the WWF World Heavyweight belt pales in comparison (like ice cream to horse manure). Heenan then says the man holding the belt is under contract to someone else but might be coming to the WWF and that man is Ric Flair.
Final Thoughts: Once again, the key segments were already shown on “Superstars.” Besides that we got another mention about Ric Flair on TV as the SummerSlam hype continues.
