WWF Superstars of Wrestling – March 31, 1990

March 31, 1990

From the Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA

Your hosts are Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Vince McMahon. Jesse is now wearing both Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior gear as he is picking both of them so he can win either way.

In action this week are Roddy Piper, Earthquake, Demolition, Jake Roberts, and Mr. Perfect. Plus, an update on The Bushwhackers, “Brother Love Show” with guests Macho King Randy Savage & Queen Sherri, and comments from Hogan and Warrior.

Roddy Piper vs. Darryl Nickel

Piper’s face is half-painted black. We hear from Bad News Brown in an insert promo as he promises Piper will be “black-and-blue” after their match at WrestleMania VI. Piper hits a few clotheslines then a bulldog before yelling into the camera at Bad News. Piper bites Nickel then pokes his eye before putting him away with a double sledgehammer (1:26).

Thoughts: They hyped up the Piper/Bad News match at WrestleMania but this feud is just too weird with Piper painting his body black.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We are shown clips from last week where Rhythm & Blues attacked The Bushwhackers from behind with their guitars. After that Rhythm & Blues are with Jimmy Hart gloating over what they did before plugging their concert at WrestleMania VI.

Bob Allen vs. Earthquake w/ Jimmy Hart

Earthquake overpowers Allen as we hear from him in an insert promo calling out Hercules as he promises to destroy him at WrestleMania. He then slams Allen before finishing him off with a sitdown splash (1:22). After the match, Earthquake delivers another splash as Allen is later taken out on a stretcher.

Thoughts: Another dominating performance from Earthquake as he is set to face Hercules at WrestleMania, his strongest opponent to date.

An ad to order WrestleMania VI on PPV airs.

Demolition vs. Conquistador #1 & Joe Stedum

Ax beats on The Conquistador to start. We hear from the Colossal Connection in an insert promo as they promise to defeat Demolition at WrestleMania then Demolition puts Stedum away with the Decapitation (1:07). After the match, the Hart Foundation enter the ring to issue a “public challenge” to face the winners of the Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania because they want the belts. They leave as Demolition calls them back in as both teams square off and have a staredown.

Thoughts: Having the Hart Foundation come out to confront Demolition really telegraphed the results of their WrestleMania matches. At least it gives us a fresh Tag feud.

Sean Mooney is in the Event Center for some WrestleMania VI hype. We hear Jim Duggan call out Dino Bravo, saying weights do not fight and he does then Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan tell Jimmy Snuka the end is coming.

Rona Barrett tells us that she will have some reports on Jesse Ventura at WrestleMania VI.

Louie Spicolli vs. Mr. Perfect w/ The Genius

We hear from Mr. Perfect in an insert promo telling Brutus Beefcake will find out what “perfect” is all about at WrestleMania VI. Perfect chops Spicolli hard in the corner then puts him away quickly with the Perfect Plex (0:48).

Thoughts: They are still billing Perfect for having a perfect record as that is hyped up the most leading up to his match against Beefcake.

We hear from the Ultimate Warrior now. He tells Hogan their match will be the greatest battle and while Hogan will surrender his strengths, he will walk out with both titles. Next, we hear from Hogan as he tells Warrior it will be his last sunset and that Hulkamania will never die.

Black Knight vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Jake is in an insert promo telling Ted DiBiase to come up with some more excuses for when he falls short at WrestleMania. The Black Knight lands a few shots but runs into a knee smash. Jake fires away and hits a short clothesline before the DDT gets the win (1:43). After the match, Jake dumps Damien on top of the Black Knight.

Thoughts: The Jake/DiBiase feud is ready to end but is still one of the top matches at WrestleMania.

Brother Love Show with guests Macho King Randy Savage & Queen Sherri. They both talk about defeating Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire at WrestleMania VI as Sherri spends most of the time screaming like a psycho.

WrestleMania VI Report with Gene Okerlund.

Orient Express w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Omar Atlas & Dale Wolfe

The Orient Express beat on Atlas to start then we hear from The Rockers in an insert promo as they talk about Mr. Fuji still trying to get of them but they will become victorious at WrestleMania VI. Wolfe tags in and Sato holds him up as Tanaka comes off the top with a flying chop as that gets the win (1:33).

Thoughts: Their does not appear to be much chemistry between Tanaka & Sato to be honest as they are going up against The Rockers at WrestleMania.

Mooney is in the Event Center for some more WrestleMania VI hype. Earthquake is with Jimmy Hart and tells Hercules he will never get him up on his shoulders then Demolition talks about how its time to put up or shut up as they will do whatever it takes to win the titles.

Next week in action are the Hart Foundation, Dino Bravo, Jim Duggan, Bad News Brown, Rick Martel, and Dino Bravo. Plus, The Bushwhackers as guests of the “Brother Love Show” and a report on WrestleMania VI.

Final Thoughts: This is the final episodes of Superstars before WrestleMania VI. All of the top matches have been hyped up enough but to be honest it still feels like a one-match show with Warrior vs. Hogan as the only reason to watch the bloated 14-match card.
