February 18, 1990
From the Lee Civic Center in Ft. Myers, FL
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Gorilla Monsoon
This week’s featured match is Dusty Rhodes vs. Rick Martel. Also in action are the Powers of Pain, Dino Bravo, and Jim Duggan
We are shown a clip from last week’s “Brother Love Show” were Rick Martel revealed his Arrogance cologne.
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Dusty Rhodes w/ Sapphire
Martel tries to chase after Sapphire then Dusty responds by prancing around and shaking his ass at him. Sapphire finally leaves then Martel attacks Dusty from behind. However, he taunts the fans and that allows Dusty enough time to get up and hammer away. Martel takes a breather then we hear him in an insert promo putting over his looks and ability as well as his new fragrance. He rakes Dusty across the face then puts the boots to him but gets caught in midair with a punch as Dusty hammers away in the corner. The referee accidentally gets knocked down then Martel sprays Dusty in the eyes with his Arrogance and the ref rings the bell for the DQ (3:25) 1/2*. After the match, Martel tries to spray Sapphire but Dusty got back up and cleared the ring.
Thoughts: Not much of a match and really more of a segment to put over the Arrogance gimmick.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. We got the same comments from Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior that we did on “Superstars of Wrestling.”
The Bolsheviks vs. Al Burke & Terry Bronson
The Bolsheviks destroy their opponents to start. They now beat on Bronson as we hear from them in an insert promo saying they are the toughest team in the world and ready to face any team at WrestleMania VI. Back to the match as The Bolsheviks stay in control until Zhukov clotheslines Bronson in the back of the head for the win (1:56).
Thoughts: A win to put over The Bolsheviks, who did not mention The Bushwhackers as that feud seems to be about over.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Carl Nelson
Duggan marches around then blocks a sneak attack and hammers away. The announcers talk about Mike Tyson being a special guest referee for the Hogan vs. Randy Savage match next Friday then Duggan puts Nelson away with the Three Point Stance (1:53).
Thoughts: More of a backdrop for the announcers to hype up Mike Tyson as a special guest referee for the “Main Event” show, which never happened as he was replaced by Buster Douglas, the man who knocked him out a couple of weeks prior.
Gene Okerlund welcomes Mr. Perfect & The Genius to the interview platform. Perfect tells everyone to keep their hands off of The Genius before signaling out Brutus Beefcake and the beating he gave him at the Royal Rumble was just a taste of what was coming next. Perfect then tells Hogan he is avoiding him and wants a match one-on-one and if he is too afraid then he can get a partner to face The Genius & himself. You can see that they are going with a Perfect/Beefcake feud now
“Rugged” Ronnie Garvin vs. Spike Jones
Garvin works the arm then takes Jones over and uses a single leg crab. Garvin knocks Jones down then uses the Garvin Stomp before the Hammer Jammer gets the win (1:53).
Thoughts: Easy victory here for Garvin as he remains without a feud since beating Greg Valentine at the Royal Rumble.
Dino Bravo w/ Jimmy Hart & Earthquake vs. Scott Williams
Bravo overpowers Williams then we hear from him in an insert promo where he promises to become the new Intercontinental Champion before he puts Williams away with a side slam (1:15). After the match, Earthquake hits Williams with a sit down splash.
Thoughts: Although not promoted, Bravo would be facing the Ultimate Warrior at the “Main Event” show this coming Friday.
WrestleMania VI Report with Gene Okerlund.
Powers of Pain w/ Mr. Fuji vs. George Skaaland & Scott Fulton
The Powers of Pain beat on Skaaland to start as we hear from The Rockers in an insert promo as they promise to take care of the Powers of Pain. Back to the match as Fulton tags in and does not fare any better than his partner then the Powers of Pain put him away with a lifting clothesline (1:55).
Thoughts: A win for the Powers of Pain as they are still feuding with The Rockers.
In action next week are Rick Rude, Red Rooster, Roddy Piper, and the featured match of Smash vs. Haku. We then end with comments from Hogan and Savage to hype up their match at “Main Event.”
Final Thoughts: They had a featured match but besides that nothing else really happened besides the stuff first shown on “Superstars of Wrestling.” After this the rest of the shows will focus on WrestleMania VI hype.
