WWF Superstars of Wrestling – January 13th, 1990

January 13, 1990

From the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, AL

Your hosts are Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Vince McMahon

Unfortunately, this copy is missing squash match wins from The Rockers, Tito Santana, and Canadian Earthquake.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Tony Burton

The announcers talk about Duggan’s match against Big Bossman at the Royal Rumble before Bossman is shown in an insert promo telling Duggan he’ll break his tongue off. Duggan beats on Burton then grabs a chinlock as Vince tells Jesse that Duggan’s family members are smart and work for NASA as Jesse implies they are monkeys. Duggan catches Burton with a slam then finishes him off with the Three Point Stance (2:14).

Thoughts: The commentary here was hilarious as Jesse was ragging on Duggan and his family. They also hyped up the Bossman vs. Duggan match at the Royal Rumble.

Sean Mooney is in the Event Center to hype tonight’s Boston Garden show. We get promos that have been shown before with Demolition promising to reclaim the Tag Team Titles while Macho King Randy Savage & Queen Sherri laugh at Duggan for thinking two referees will be able to help him.

“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase w/ Virgil vs. Dale Wolfe

DiBiase beats Wolfe down as we hear from Jake Roberts in an insert promo as he tells DiBiase he’ll be watching out for him at the Royal Rumble. Back to the match as DiBiase is in control while Jesse is irate you cannot buy someone else’s number, likening it to communism. Jesse then tells the kids rules are made to be broken as DiBiase hits a double underhook suplex then yells at Jake into the camera. DiBiase then puts Wolfe away with the Million Dollar Dream (2:38).

Thoughts: More hype for the DiBiase/Jake feud.

Brother Love Show with guest Ultimate Warrior, who is pacing around. We see a clip of the Canadian Earthquake and Dino Bravo attacking Warrior, who tells them both they do not pose a challenge as the camera zooms in on his face. Brother Love warns him of others in the Royal Rumble match but gets yelled at as Warrior then ends this by running off like a psycho.

Royal Rumble Report with Gene Okerlund.

“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Jerry Monti

Slick is not with Martel here and the announcers do not make any mention of it either. Martel dropkicks Monti and stays in control then we hear from Brutus Beefcake in an insert promo as he mocks Martel by modeling the clothes he took from Martel and cut up with his shears. Martel then hits a backbreaker before putting Monti away with a Boston Crab (2:43).

Thoughts: Looks like the Slick/Martel relationship is just about over. Once the modeling stuff started, Slick was just a guy who walked him to the ring. They stopped being featured together.

Mooney is back in the Event Center for the Boston Garden show. Honky Tonk Man promises to play a tune on Jimmy Snuka as the Ultimate Warrior talks about what he had to do to become the warrior and Dino Bravo & Canadian Earthquake cannot handle him.

Next week in action are Jimmy Snuka, Rick Rude, Demolition, and Ted DiBiase. Plus, “Brother Love Show” with guest Hulk Hogan.

Final Thoughts: More Royal Rumble hype plus some more segments regarding other top feuds in the company.
