WWF Superstars of Wrestling – November 25th, 1989

November 25, 2017

From the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, KS

Your hosts are Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Vince McMahon

This week’s featured match is Jimmy Snuka vs. Honky Tonk Man. Also in action are Macho King Randy Savage, Demolition, Colossal Connection, and Dusty Rhodes. Plus, Roddy Piper as a guest on the “Brother Love Show” and more!

Demolition vs. Mike Scarberry & Ken Arnold

Demolition beat on Arnold to start. Scarberry tags and does not fare any better then Demolition gets the win with the Decapitation (1:42).

Thoughts: Quick win for Demolition. Nothing of note was talked about on commentary, either.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. This is all about the “No Holds Barred” PPV that shows both the match and the movie. The match is Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake vs. Randy Savage & Zeus inside of a steel cage. We hear from Savage, Zeus, and Sherri as they are behind the blue bars.

Dino Bravo w/ Jimmy Hart & Canadian Earthquake vs. Tom Fuller

Fuller works the arm then lands some Kris Lewie-esque punches before Bravo takes him down with a knee lift. We then hear from Bravo in an insert promo calling himself the World’s Strongest Man then promises to take the Intercontinental Title away from the Ultimate Warrior. The announcers talk about Bravo vs. Warrior as Bravo stays in control then gets the win with a side slam (1:42). After the match, Earthquake hits Fuller with a sitdown splash.

Thoughts: After the attack on Warrior we are now going to get a Bravo/Warrior feud, which sounds horrifying.

Jesse plugs the 1990 WWF Calendar, with the Ultimate Warrior on the cover.

Dusty Rhodes vs. Rusty Riddle

Riddle attacks Dusty from behind but Dusty fights back and tosses him outside. The Big Bossman is shown in an insert promo promising to give Dusty some “ball-and-chain justice” as Dusty puts Riddle away with the Bionic Elbow Drop (1:10). After the match, Dusty sees his fan (Sapphire) in the front row and goes out to dance with her as Vince is in his glory as Jesse calls her out for not having any teeth.

Thoughts: Quick win for Dusty as they are playing up the superfan here who loves him.

Sean Mooney is in the Event Center to hype the 12/31 Hartford Civic Center show. Roddy Piper is standing behind the blue bars and sings some of “Roxanne” and “We are the World” to hype his steel cage match against Rick Rude. Mr. Fuji and the Powers of Pain talk about beating the crap out of the Rockers in their match.

The Genius and Mr. Perfect are outside. Perfect calls out Hulk Hogan for not being perfect then tosses a few ringers while playing horseshoes as The Genius is jumping around.

Honky Tonk Man w/ Jimmy Hart vs. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka

Honky charges but Snuka was ready and hammers away. Snuka stays on the attack and hits a flying chop but Honky rakes the eyes. Snuka fights back but Hart provides a distraction and that allows Honky to hit a double axe handle from the apron. Snuka fights back and headbutts Honky down from the apron. Honky comes back with a knee smash then chokes out Snuka with the top rope. Honky starts kicking Snuka in the head but it does not have any effect. Snuka comes back with a flying shoulder tackle then hits a knee drop and adjusts his knee pads but as that happens, Hart slides the guitar into the ring then provides a distraction. Honky then whacks Snuka over the head for the DQ then hits him again but it has no effect then Honky bails as Snuka destroys the rest of the guitar (4:01) *.

Thoughts: The action was about what you’d expect from these two as it seems their feud will be over soon, if not already.

Mooney is back in the Event Center for the 12/31 Hartford show. Jake Roberts tells Ted DiBiase his world has changed since injuring his neck then tells him he is a predator and DiBiase is his “meat.” We now hear from Rude behind the blue bars with Heenan standing on the outside as he screams about not being an animal and should not be inside of a cage.

Hercules is shown playing the new WrestleMania video game from Nintendo as Jesse makes fun of him for not being good at the game and calls him a “big dummy.”

Colossal Connection w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Todd Becker & Ray Oakley

Vince brings up the dissension within the Heenan Family as Jesse reassures us it will be taken care of and plugs the Rockers vs. Brainbusters match tonight, which aired on “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” Haku beats on Becker then does the same to Oakley. Andre tags in and holds up Oakley as Haku lands a thrust kick then hits an elbow drop for the win (1:58).

Thoughts: Although they keep hinting at dissension among the Heenan Family, its clear that after Tully was not at Survivor Series and Heenan yelled at Arn for leaving ringside after getting eliminated that its the Brainbusters as they are getting buried on the way out.

Brother Love Show with guest Roddy Piper. However, Brother Love does not come out but we do get Piper, with a rope over his shoulder. We are shown a replay of a few months ago when Rude attacked Piper on the show then Piper tells us we are going to get a treat and gives us “dope on a rope” as he brings out Brother Love, who is hogtied with a sheet over his head. Another segment that sees Brother Love get embarrassed.

Macho King Randy Savage w/ Queen Sherri vs. Paul Roma

Savage calls out Duggan in an insert promo before the match. Roma catches Savage then hits a running powerslam then follows with a missile dropkick. Sherri distracts Roma for a bit then Roma misses a charge then gets tossed outside where Sherri kicks him. Back inside, Savage hits a knee drop for two as Jesse screams at Vince and says Sherri is capable of defending herself. Roma comes back with a dropkick and a slam but heads up top where Sherri shoves him off and shortly after that Savage puts him away with the flying elbow drop (3:10).

Thoughts: Nice, little match here as Roma got in some offense and looked good in the process. The Duggan/Savage feud continues.

An ad voiced-over by Vince for the “No Holds Barred” PPV airs.

“The Model” Rick Martel models tennis gear as Lord Alfred Hayes comments like he is hosting a fashion show. Martel then asks if we color-coordinated our kids today.

Dave Watson vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts

Watson tries to play mind games but Jake beats him down. We hear from Jake in an insert promo as he calls out DiBiase for blowing smoke whereas he breathes fire then puts Watson away with the DDT (0:56).

Thoughts: Easy win for Jake as he is still out for revenge against DiBiase.

Mooney is back in the Event Center to hype the Hartford show. DiBiase tells Jake he will attack his neck and put him out for good as The Rockers as they are not afraid of the Powers of Pain.

In action next week are Jim Duggan, Bad News Brown, The Rockers, Ted DiBiase, and the Ultimate Warrior. The show closes with hype for the Andre the Giant vs. Ultimate Warrior and The Genius vs. Hulk Hogan matches on “Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

Final Thoughts: We had a featured match here but this was a lame duck show for the most part as it was just two days after Survivor Series and they never mentioned the show here. The next big thing is the No Holds Barred PPV as we should expect more hype for that in the coming weeks.
