The 2016 Doomie Awards

Last week the blog cast its votes for the top (and worst) wrestlers and moments of 2016.  The voting deadline has passed and all of the votes have been counted.  Remember, a first place vote was worth five points, a second place vote was worth three points, and a third place vote was worth one point.  In case of a tie, number of first place votes was used to break it.

I included the top three finishers for each category below, but if you wish to see the entire spreadsheet and how many first place, second place, and/or third place a choice received, go to this link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IPo8DD2ovDENl3FlkY0-RXqy8iHL1EfsMFG3SQ1rpao/edit?usp=sharing

Keep in mind that not all voters cast a ballot with three choices for each category and some voters did not vote for certain categories.  In all, though, we had a higher rate of participation this year, with fifty-three people casting ballots (versus thirty-two last year). • Be. Are. See.

I guess I underestimated how many people here like NJPW.

    • PhilStubington

And that was before last weekend’s show!

  • Brian_Bayless

    I WON A DOOMIE!

  • jobber123

Nxt beating out njpw is all the lulz. What a shitty ass bunch of awards.

    • Brian_Bayless

I’m gonna have to solely review Int’l and Independent wrestling to save the blog.

  • jobber123

I’m actually embarrassed for this place reading these results.

    • PhilStubington

Do feel free to share what you voted for so we can all learn from your infinite wisdom and good taste in wrestling.

      • jobber123

I did share my observer ballot. Sorry but these are straight terrible and show the voters didnt follow wrestling outside watching wwe. Share yours so I can individually mock each one though if you want.

        • ILikeNeville

Cool obscure Japanese wrestler in your avatar!

          • jobber123

Japanese wrestlers aren’t obscure in 2017.

          • ILikeNeville

            None of them?

  • Facts

Glad WM 32 got worst show. The rest was eh.

  • Best_in_the_World

Night’s Marv roast was my vote! It was hilarious!!

  • RedStorm

Do we have a “post of the year” based off upvotes?

    • LScisco

No but I like the idea. Not sure how we could get that info, though.

      • RedStorm

Man I think the only way would be to go to every single post and sort comments by “Best”.

    • AnInternetToughGuy

I’ll just say I won. My Stephanie McMahon = anagram of “The Macho Man Penis” had like 42 upvotes I think.
      (Bows)

  • RedStorm

We should also have “worst poster” and “at least he’s trying” awards.

    • ILikeNeville

Yeah this place doesn’t do enough naval-gazing already

      • RedStorm

My pick for worst poster would be the one with the cat on the teee branch that says “Hang in there!”

  • JDW

I don’t know how I missed voting in this, but I have to say I agree with just about all of the results. The biggest exception being NXT over NJPW as promotion of the year.

    • LScisco

NJPW may have won but more people on the blog watch NXT instead of NJPW

  • Stranger In the Alps

“Bad Owl Puns” will be forgotten come time for the 2017 awards.

    Thankfully.

  • Dino Bravo Sucks

I feel like “discussing how much Dino Bravo sucks” got overlooked by the awards committee. Because he was the worst. The absolute worst.

    Dino Bravo Sucks.

    • ziggaman730

wasnt it bravo who was supposed to job to Bret for the first time and injured him and still went to town on Brets ribs?

    • ILikeNeville

He provably is an all-time great, just based on how much discussion he generates. Compare that with say, Pedro Morales. Nobody cares about him. Jack Brisco is almost never mentioned.

Dino Bravo gets his name in lights here Every Single Day. Now that’s staying power you usually get only from a Hogan, a Flair, an Andre, a… Dino Bravo.

  • dirtyearsbill

NXT as best promotion of the year? I mean, I love Nakamura and the Revival but that show has been bad. NJPW is consistently better. Even Smackdown is leagues better than NXT.

    • Buster Abbott

Also, NXT isn’t a “promotion.” WWE is the promotion, NXT is one of its brands.

  • Dwayne

Yeah, NXT sucked last year but if guess if you only watch that and Raw it was the best.

  • Supermark25

No love for Dougie as Best Blog Topic?

    • PhilStubington

3rd: Banned People Wanting Back – 15 pts

      • Supermark25

        I said best not worst.

  • James BC

The spreadsheet link took me to the votes for 2015. Someone voted for Brock Lesnar vs Big Show as match of the year.

  • Comdukakis

I’d like to thank the academy, my family, my…..what? Only 3rd? WTF BOD!!!!
I thank none of you, you ungrateful bastards!!!!

    • 3rd is better than any pro team from Michigan has done in almost a decade!

      • Comdukakis

        OH TAG!!!

      • Big D Wangston

Well the Red Wings won in 2008 and the Tigers lost in the World Series in 2012. Otherwise accurate

        • Holy crap, I totally forgot about the 2012 Tigers. (I said almost a decade because of the Wings).

Okay then, Comdukakis isn’t as good as the 2012 Tigers.

    • Daniel O’Reilly

I was really shocked you placed that high :).

  • Miko363

It keeps saying I need to be given permission to view the spreadsheet.

All I wanted is to see if I got one vote.

  • juvydriver

Looks like I’m going to need to be much better and more prolific as a poster in the new year.

  • Nellykins

So I have a few days off from here and miss all the fun. Still, I’m happy with most of the voting apart from I would have picked Asuka for my women’s wrestler. Charlotte has too much of her dad’s stink on her for my liking. And I mean old Ric stink, not 1986 Ric stink
